Woodbridge Virginia Family Photographer | The Flynn Story

This Woodbridge, VA storytelling photography session took place in the warm, cozy home of the Flynn Family on a bitterly cold morning in January. When I arrived, preparations were being made for a delicious batch of chocolate chip cookies. {How do I know that they were delicious? I may or may not have sampled one for myself…} It wasn’t long before the newest member of the family was up from his nap and ready to join the crew. They ate, laughed, played, and went about their morning as usual. There was an outrageous amount of love and a joy for life.

But when thinking about a way to sum up this family, I keep coming back to a conversation I had with the little sister. I like to ask my youngest clients to think about something they would like me to photograph before I leave. A favorite toy, a special gift, something of importance to them. When I asked her if she had thought of something special, she suggested her little brother. I reassured her that I got plenty of pictures of him and asked once again if she could think of something she really loved. She thought for a moment and proposed that I photograph her big sister. As I began to prompt again and tell her that I got pictures of the whole family, I realized that those WERE her special things. There was nothing else that this sweet girl could think of when asked about her most loved things that she wanted documented. And in that moment, I saw mom melt. Because there is nothing more important than family and all of the small moments shared.
